Island ho

Sunday 5th

Stage 2 of my holiday started early this morning as we left the hotel at 6am. I'd already paid for the Internet connection so there was no check out issues, just a key drop. Guy programmed the GPS and off we went. It was Karen - the same voice I used in Houston.

There was a bit of concern because once we'd got out of the inner city area the estimated arrival time was 5 minutes after the ferry was due to leave. However, Guy realised he'd put in the wrong destination (a different port) and when reprogrammed we had time to spare. We in fact had time to get breakfast and drinks at the deli nearby before boarding.

The crossing was smooth and didn't take very long. There are several islands that you can see, although the further they were, the more misty the view. The island is only 6km long so, it didn't take long to get to the house once we'd landed.

Like most of the houses here it is weather board and raised off the ground. Some houses have virtually a full story underneath with car parking and storage but this one is only arised to level it out. It has polished boards throughout and a very large open living, dining and kitchen area and one bedroom downstairs and 2 upstairs. There's a recenetly enlarged deck off the back. The upstairs balcony ahs viwes of the water but not downstairs.

We spent most of the morning having a nap since we'd been up early after a late night. Guy was off at a beach fun day taking kids sailing, and we ventured down there after a late lunch. It was run by the boat club and the officials all wore pirate hats or bandannas.

On the way we saw their other house and 2 blocks and on the way back we did a tour of some of the other parts of the island. Some of the views are really spectacular. Later on we looked up properties for sale on the island on an internet site. It seems the view is almost as big a factor in price as block size and house size and amenities.

At one point we saw a couple of curlews and their chick and some Plovers with several chicks.

Once home we rested again and I had another nap. Then we watched TV for a bit with a curry for dinner in between. I fell asleep before the end of CSI Miami, but was told the bad guys got caught.
